At InvaSec we have innovated a solution to sign the file at the source/creation, and verify the fie is unaltered when delivered.
First we created the patented UBolt infrastructure to deliver validated files to any system, including air gapped. But we needed to make signing files so simple that everyone could sign data at the source, and then have it checked on the UBolt system. We came up with DNSPKI.
DNSPKI (Domain Name Service Public Key Infrastructure) is an InvaSec developed system to enable any organisation with a domain name a simple and inexpensive method to sign files/data. Once signed, the sender can forward his data to the UBolt/DNSPKI enabled customer so they can prove the origin and integrity of the received data.
DNSPKI has numerous advantages over a traditional PKI Signing solution. For example, the signing organisation has full control of their keys. In a traditional PKI environment, a host contains hundreds of root CA certificates. Any of these Certificate Authorities can issue a certificate for any organisation, even ones they don’t authorise and have it trusted by systems. Comodo and DigiNotar did just this in 2011. With DNSPKI and DNS secured by DNSSEC, only the domain owner can advertise their public keys via their domain. Also, there is no way to know in traditional PKI who has issued certificates on your behalf. As a DNSPKI certificate is advertised globally, an organisation can check and confirm at any time, that their public key/s are correct, giving piece of mind. These are just two of numerous advantages.
Any organisation/department/person with a domain name can now sign data, giving a receiving party anywhere in the world the ability to verify it’s source and integrity, instantly. By having a universal, scalable system for signing and verifying the integrity and source of the files, organisations can identify data coming from a trusted source. This enables them to remove the “background noise” from unknown , untrusted sources, focusing their finite resources on examining the data that matters.
